I have recently been awarded the "National Leadership Award" and I have been appointed as an "Honorary Chairman" for the State of Missouri's Republican Committee.  My wife and I have been invited to the White House for a Black Tie Dinner/Event.  As of late, I have been receiving a lot of invitations to join various "Grandmasters & Sokeship Council(s)".  I have talked with those that are recommending me and I still cannot understand the need to join such a council.   I'm very honored but I still don't understand why all of the sudden recognition.

The definition of a "Soke" is simply the head (founder or inheritor) of a martial arts style / system which is based on a Japanese martial art, so is "Do-Ju" for Korean and Si-Jo for Chinese based martial arts. In English one common title also is "Head of Family".

The problem I have with most of these organizations is that they appear to spend too much time and energy on validating Instructors and Systems.  It is a waste of valuable resources considering what these organizations could accomplish with other areas.

Most people talk about the Unity and Brotherhood of the Martial Arts.  The unfortunate truth is that most people seem to loose sight of the Big Picture within the Martial Arts... Growth, Change & Honor.

I do respect and honor those Grandmasters that are recommending me for these positions.  I was just wondering if anyone new of any Council that may be conducive with my specific values and beliefs?  Any suggestions about this would be appreciated.

Somehow I doubt that you are going to find many answers to this question from the average forum viewer.

I doubt that many of us know of things such as these councils.  The only thing that comes to mind is the President's Council on Physical Fitness.  It would seem that the only purpose they could serve is as a validation of a particular system or school or instructor.  I doubt it is worth the time and effort to deal with them except possibly as an outside advisor unless you find one that happens to coincide with your own goals.

I think that you know that you don't really have enough time to join one of these councils if they aren't doing things you find valuable.  Otherwise you will end up spending all your time trying to get them to go in a different direction with their work.  Even if you had some organization like this that reflected your attitudes and goals would you really be able to devote a lot of time to participating in that group?
