Sifu,

I want to wish you a very merry Christmas.  This time of the year, it's typical to think about those who have touched your lives and impacted you in a positive way, and I have been thinking of you, your teachings and how much both have impacted my life.  A few years ago I was doing just getting by in my collage studies.  I am not certain that my education was really taking me anywhere, and I suffered from astma on nearly a daily basis.  Kung fu gave me a healthy body, confidence, and the work ethic and concentration that has allowed me to raise my GPA to a 3.5 instead of the 2.3 I used to have.  Your teachings and the Lohan system have made me re-evaluate what is important in my life, and has strongly affected the choices that I have made regarding my present studies.  The martial arts training you have given me is the best that I have ever encountered.  You are not a perfect man, Sifu, but you have proven to me that you are a good man, and that's all I can ask out of any of my teachers, be they Sifu, Elder, or Professour.  I respect all of the hard work that you have put forth for our schools, and the interest you take in your students.  You have impacted me, and made a difference in my life, and I'm sure it would be as rewarding as it is now if it had not been touched by you and your teachings.

With best holiday wishes,

Bart

This was a fantastic gift for me.  There are times when I wonder if I am TRULY helping those in need with my teaching.  I am glad to see that I have helped at least one(1) person.  I pray there will be more in the future.

Dear Sifu,

I am a former student of your St. Louis school. While I loved studying there, a new job took me away. I hope to return after I get a "regular" full time position as I feel our school is one of the best in the area.

Gushing aside, I have a question. In addition to Kung Fu, I've been priviledged to study Tai Chi with a practioner from Shanghai. My husband and I have been with her for about a year and a half. She is returning to China this summer and has invited us to study with her teacher.  She also says that we can meet some of her teacher's friends and train with them as well.  We'll be staying with her in Shanghai.  We are honored and very excited. I know it is customary to bring a gift for our host, and her teachers. What would you suggest?

Respectfully,

Lisa Hollander

Lisa,

Most likely (of course) a gift from America!   I would suggest some food unique to the Midwest.

Thanks. I'll look for something like that.

Best regards,
